Donna Shannon, affectionately known as Dr. Donna, received her master’s and doctorate degrees in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University Maryland after retiring from a 25-year career as a special educator. Dr. Donna integrates a variety of cognitive-based approaches with alternative interventions for the treatment of depression, grief and loss, anxiety, and trauma. She provides sensitive, respectful, and affirming counseling for adult, senior, and LGBTQ populations.
She believes that counseling is a collaborative experience where the client and counselor work together to navigate life’s challenges. Depending on client interest, religion, spirituality, and sound healing meditation can be integrated in treatment to enhance the healing process and promote spiritual growth.

Dr. Donna Shannon has provided counseling services in community mental health and private practice settings in Maryland and Virginia since 2006. In addition to her clinical work, she has taught master’s level counseling students, mentored doctorate level counseling students, and provided supervision to pre-licensure counselors. Her research focused on the integration of spirituality and psychology.
Dr. Donna also holds a diploma in Integral Sound Healing with Individual Clients from the Sound Healing Academy and has completed advanced coursework of Sound Healing and Therapy with Seven Chakra Healing Methodology from the Golden Temple Healing Center in Nepal.
Dr. Donna provides sensitive, respectful, and affirming counseling for adult, senior, and LGBTQ populations. She views counseling as a cooperative and collaborative experience and often refers to her relationship with clients as co-journeyers on the path to wellness and inner peace.
