Dr. Kira Candelieri approaches therapy from a trauma-informed and attachment-focused lens, with respect for how early and relational experiences shape current patterns in relationships, self-worth, and coping. She values helping clients make sense of these patterns in a way that reduces shame and increases self-understanding.

Dr. Kira Candelieri has been working with clients since 2016 across a variety of settings, including private practice, community-based services, private day treatment, and school-based/special education environments.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Kira Candelieri is dedicated to supporting the growth of future therapists. She is a Virginia Board Approved Supervisor for residents seeking their LPC and LMFT. She provides thoughtful clinical guidance, helping developing clinicians build confidence, strengthen their skills, and grow into compassionate, effective providers.
Dr. Kira Candelieri values a strong, collaborative therapeutic relationship as the foundation for meaningful change. She believes healing happens within the context of safety, trust, and authentic connection, where clients feel understood without judgment and supported as they explore their emotional experiences at a deeper level.
She also believes in honoring each client’s pace and autonomy throughout the therapeutic process. Dr. Kira Candelieri’s role is to support clients in recognizing patterns that may no longer serve them while helping them develop greater emotional awareness, healthier boundaries, and more secure ways of relating to themselves and others.
At the core of her work is the belief that people are capable of profound change when they are given a safe space to be seen, understood, and supported consistently over time.
Clients can expect a collaborative, supportive, and emotionally focused therapy process with Dr. Kira Candelieri. Sessions are guided by a trauma-informed and attachment-based lens, with attention to how past relational experiences continue to shape current thoughts, emotions, and relationship patterns.
Early sessions typically focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship, understanding presenting concerns, and identifying recurring emotional and relational patterns. Over time, therapy involves increasing insight, recognizing unhelpful cycles, and developing healthier ways of responding to emotions, relationships, and stress.
Clients can expect a balance of reflection and practical support. This may include exploring underlying experiences, strengthening emotional awareness, improving coping strategies, and working toward clearer boundaries and more secure relational functioning. The pace is individualized and guided by each client’s needs and readiness.
Throughout the process, the emphasis is on creating a safe, consistent space where clients feel understood and supported as they move toward meaningful and sustainable change.
